Proper maintenance of building systems is key to safe, comfortable, and efficient use of your home!

Ensure you are prepared for the cold temperatures this winter.  All building systems, including furnaces and other heating system elements, should be maintained in proper working order and capable of performing the function for which they are designed.

Furnaces and other heating system elements should be properly maintained in working order and functional condition.  The Minnesota State Building Code calls for interior spaces intended for human occupancy to be provided with heating systems capable of maintaining a minimum indoor air temperature of 68° F at a point 3 feet above the floor.  CenterPoint Energy recommends regularly scheduled maintenance by a qualified mechanical contractor of your furnace to ensure a long life as well as safe & efficient operation of the appliance.  If you have not had your furnace inspected or serviced recently you might consider scheduling a preventative maintenance service with a professional to help prevent a failure during this winter’s cold temperatures.  Now is also a good time to remember that single-family as well as multi-family residential structures should have properly functioning smoke detectors in each sleeping room and carbon monoxide detectors within 10 feet of all sleeping rooms.
