Members of the Apple Valley Police Department have created a bumper sticker and window cling series that simply states “Thank a Cop”. The idea was pitched to the department by an anonymous business owner who wants others to have the ability to show support for their police force.
“Our officers don’t go out trying to drum up support for ourselves on a daily basis” States Captain Nick Francis. “But we certainly appreciate it when people show their support. It means a lot to us during a time when most stories about police are negative.”
The public outreach materials contain a hashtag before the phrase directing supporters to post supporting pictures or stories online. Two styles, a window cling and bumper sticker, were created to allow residents and business owners alike the opportunity to show their support on their vehicles, on their business windows or on the front door of their residence.
Francis adds “I have personally taken numerous calls from residents asking how they can show their support for our department. I’m happy that we can now provide them with a way to show it.”
The stickers and clings will be available at the Apple Valley Police Department, numerous businesses throughout the city, as well as other public events that the department participates in.
