Water flushed down the toilet or washed down the sink in your home goes to the Empire or Seneca Wastewater Treatment Plants in Dakota County. The treatment plants do a lot to remove bacteria and other harmful substances before reclaimed water is discharged into the Mississippi River. However some substances, like unused medications, can pass through treatment processes and continue on to the river. These medications can have impacts on wildlife that use of the river and downstream communities. Unused medications can be properly disposed of at drop boxes located throughout the Metro Area including the Apple Valley Police Station.
