[ARCHIVED] Emerald Ash Borer: Is Your Property Prepared?

Insect Galleries Caused By Emerald Ash Borer Under Bark of an Ash Tree Found in Apple Valley

Emerald Ash Borer attacks Ash trees. Infested Ash trees usually won't show symptoms for 2-3 years. Property owners that have ash trees should have a plan in place for managing the ash trees on their property to avoid getting stuck with unexpected costs.

Are all the trees in your yard Ash?  Do you have an Ash tree of exceptional quality in your yard?  If you can say yes to either of these questions, it's time to have a plan in place to address Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).  EAB is widespread in the Twin Cities Metro Area (MDA Emerald Ash Borer Status Map).  Trees infested with EAB may not show symptoms right away, and symptoms are most easily seen during winter.  If City staff mark your trees as infested during winter surveys, removal will be required.  Now is the time to decide whether you want to keep your trees and assess proactive solutions for removal or protection.  City staff are eager to assist.  Call or email Apple Valley Natural Resources at 952-953-2400 or natresource@ci.apple-valley.mn.us to schedule a free consultation.
