When not placed out for collection all trash, recycling, and yard waste containers should be stored within a structure, screened from view when stored in side-yard areas, or in the rear yard at single family residential properties.
Storage
The trash container storage requirements detailed above may be accomplished in numerous ways and every property is unique in its layout and surroundings. This allows for numerous alternatives for compliant trash container storage at any given property. Common solutions however, may include storage of containers in the garage, use of privacy fencing or coniferous vegetation for “year round” screening when stored in side-yards, or other suitable landscaping arrangements. Screening should block view of the containers from adjacent properties and public right of ways. Containers stored outside shall be watertight and maintained in such a manner as not to permit entry of or harborage for animals, insects, or other vermin.
Placement
Remember also that containers when placed out for collection, on the designated trash collection day, should be placed behind the curb and never on the street. Containers placed beyond the curb obstruct many ordinary uses of the public right of way. Haulers are responsible for returning them to their location behind the curb following collection of contents. Containers may be placed out for collection no earlier than 6:00 p.m. of the night preceding collection day.
