As nights begin to cool off for the season, recreational fires will be more common throughout the city. To keep your property and neighborhood safe please remember to follow recreational fire and burning guidelines while burning at your property.
Recreational fires should be confined to an area no greater than 3 x 3 x 3 feet and should be completely surrounded by a non-combustible material such as but not limited to rock, masonry, or ferrous metal. Areas intended for recreational fire use may be located no closer than 25 feet to a combustible structure such as a house, garage, deck or fence.
- All recreational fires shall be supervised by an adult who is in the immediate vicinity of the recreational fire until it is extinguished.
- A fire extinguisher or garden hose attached to a working water spigot shall be readily available at the location of any open burning or recreational fire.
- No fire shall be allowed if winds are greater than 15 miles per hour.
- Any complaints about smoke from a fire shall be cause for immediate extinguishment of the fire.
- All fires are subject to discontinuance at the direction of the Fire or Police Department.
- No fire shall be combusted in a public right-of-way or on public property, except that a recreational fire may be combusted on public property where designated.
- No prohibited materials should be combusted in a recreational fire (rubber, plastics, chemically treated materials, hazardous waste, food processing waste, leaves or grass clippings
- No wood combusted in a recreational fire shall exceed three feet in length.
