City ordinance requires maintenance of driveways free from deteriorated and hazardous conditions in both residential and commercial districts. Deteriorated driveway and parking surfaces are not only unpleasant to drive on, but can cause damage to vehicles, and are unattractive. Such conditions in commercial areas can deter customers, and tends to reduce property values in residential neighborhoods. Please adequately patch all potholes and repair any cracks found in your driveway area. Asphalt driveway surfaces that have deteriorated to a state of rubble in many spots may need to be replaced entirely.
When considering pavement options here are a few general tips to keep in mind. Asphalt is generally cheaper, but requires regular sealing for maintenance and can be repaired easily by patching. Concrete, although generally more expensive, is much more durable than asphalt. Repairs to cracks in concrete driveways are more expensive, but use of concrete pavement also provides more decorative finishing options than asphalt.
