[ARCHIVED] Multiple Reports of Theft of Mail

On May 10, the Apple Valley Police Department responded to several reports of theft from mailboxes.

Several residents in the southwest corner of Apple Valley reported finding their mail scattered on the ground outside their mailboxes. In some cases mail was opened and gone through, some was just lying on the ground. Typically thieves who steal mail do it to obtain personal information to commit Identity Theft. Remember to retrieve mail from your mailbox as soon as possible after it has been delivered, never mail important documents, cash, checks, etc. from unsecured mailboxes. Instead, bring those items to your local post office. Always report suspicious behavior in your neighborhood to 911. Prevention is everyone's responsibility. Do your part to make sure you don't become a victim of mail theft.
