1. Do I have to have firefighting experience to be a firefighter?

Previous experience is beneficial, but not required. The Apple Valley Fire Department trains new recruits.

2. How do I know when the Fire Department is hiring?

If you have filled out a job interest card for Firefighter with the City of Apple Valley, you will be notified when the hiring process begins. Additionally, there are NOW HIRING banners posted at each fire station when the process begins. Firefighter hiring is done to fill vacancies at fire stations. Typically, the hiring process begins in the spring. 

3. Does Apple Valley have full-time firefighters?

Apple Valley Fire Department is a paid-on-call department where our firefighters respond to their assigned station when the pager they have been issued alerts them to an emergency call. The only full-time positions within the department are the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Fire Marshal, Fire Inspector, and the Department Assistant.
